Medellin: Music, Waterfalls and Mangos
The final part of our time in Medellin started with a show put on as part of the city’s Feria de la Flores. It was a Fruko tribute to Joe Arroyo followed by a Golpe Golpe show. Hadn’t heard of Golpe Golpe but they’re a big reggae group form Puertro Rico. The show was free, way up a hill in a barrio called La Milagrosa. We pulled up on Robin’s motorcycle to probably a thousand people waiting on the street – the show was full and nobody could get in. Got to Medellin Wednesday night late, arrived at Robin’s (from Jack Magazine) apartment. It’s in a ”bohemian” barrio called Carlos A. Restrepo…4 story brick buildings surrounded by trees in a relatively tranquil part of this city of 2.5 million, 5 minutes from El Centro. Had maracuya juice and a stir fry made by my gracious host. All around are the dramatic mountains that surround the city, covered in a mixture of trees and barrio.
